Professional and Parent Workshops

Looking to further your education as a professional or a parent? Homegrown Families offers or hosts various workshops throughout the year to help doulas, childbirth educators, birth workers and parents learn something new and build upon their skills! Check out our upcoming workshops below!

Practicing Allyship in Birth Workers

Join us for education, discussion and loving accountability for doulas who want to explore how the personal is political and how that impacts birth spaces. This one-day 3 hour training will have mix of discussion, reflection, and lecture around supporting queer and/or clients of color. Whether you’re brand new to this journey or not, this workshop is for you. This course is for anyone working with families in our community and wanting to learn how to better support them! We welcome social workers, therapists, full spectrum-doulas and anyone in the village it takes to raise a child to find community in this space.

Birthworkers, and particularly white birthworkers, have a unique opportunity to make substantial change in this regard. By educating our clients towards increased self-advocacy, and by demanding better of providers, we shift the power imbalance and move toward meaningful patient-directed care in a hospital setting. This workshop will guide birthworkers in navigating the power imbalances and systemic oppression apparent in medical institutions, and will review the role of white birthworkers in taking responsibility for promoting truly intersectional feminism in birth and postpartum contexts.

You will receive a certificate at the end of this course for its completion.
If you have to miss this course after sign up, please reach out and we can put you in a class within the next three months!
